macOS 10.15 GM released.

Apple has released macOS 10.15 GM build – if all goes according to plan, this will be the final build before it is released to the public. Unfortunately I am not confident that it’ll be as stable as I would like based on my experience with Safari 13.0.1 not to mention the quick succession of releases following iOS 13 being released then a few days later 13.1 then a few days later 13.1.1 then a few days after that 13.1.2. What I’m tempted to do is wait until iOS 13.2 is released and when that happens hopefully Apple would have pushed out maybe a supplementary update if not an x.1 update to sort out any loose ends.

The big challenge will be whether developers will have their software out in time given that 32bit compatibility has been removed along with many of the 32bit only libraries. There is also the big show pieces thanks to Catalyst whether that too will be launched in time such as the return of the Twitter client to macOS. Steam is another one that I”m focusing on because there are applications that need updating to 64bit but unfortunately there is a reluctance by the software vendors themselves to make that change – Simcity 4 is a favourite of mine but unfortunately I don’t ever seeing Aspyr recompiling it for 64bit macOS. With that being said, it’ll be interesting to see what will happen to first party applications from Apple – whether we’ll see a big update to the Final Cut Pro X suite of applications (Final Cut Pro X, Compressor and Motion) along with Pages, Keynote and Numbers.
